A personal trainer will help you reach your goals by designing safe and effective
workout programs especially for you. A personal trainer is a source of motivation
and encouragement, and a resource for the latest information on health and
fitness. A personal trainer can help you fit exercise into your schedule and teach
you how to make the most of your time. People use trainers for many different
reasons and with different goals. Your trainer should have goals similar to yours.
Here are some important things to look for before hiring a fitness trainer:
o        How long have they been a personal trainer?
o        What types of clients have they worked with?
o        What is their background? (Educationally, certification etc.)
o        Does the trainer perform a health screening, conduct testing and evaluate
your current fitness level?
o        Where is the studio location?
o        Does it have state-of-the-art equipment?
o        Does it have a specialized stretching, strength training technique and
nutritional philosophy?
o        Is it a safe comfortable environment?
o        Is it truly one on one exclusively, or are others training at the same time as
you are with other trainers or by themselves?

Personality and communication skills:
Personality plays a large part in choosing a trainer. A good trainer should help
you find:
o        How to best go about it, without sabotage.
o        The right exemplar model that fits your personality.
o        What motivates you and what doesn’t.
o        A new meaning and perception of exercise and well-being.
o        The vision of how you want to look and feel.
o        Belief in yourself and what you are trying to achieve.
o        The art of effective communication that supports your goals.
o        Expectancy in your goals through results, questioning and support.
o        A new value you place on your own well-being.
o        A new way to conditioning; mentally, physically, emotionally and
nutritionally by changing the way you think, feel, move, breathe and eat, so that
you may achieve the goals you desire.
Be clear to the trainer what you want to get out of the session and this could be
the best investment you’ve ever made.

Fees and scheduling policies:
o        What is the cancellation policy?
o        What does the trainer charge?
o        How long is each session?
o        What services are included in the fee?
o        Is there an additional “gym membership” fee?
o        Are there package prices?
o        Is the trainer available to meet your schedule?
o        Does the trainer offer a discount for multiple sessions?

Determine your needs; you may want to meet with the trainer on a regular basis,
or on a consulting basis to help you design a program and update it periodically.
Personal trainer’s fees vary depending on the length of the session, location
and trainer’s experience. You can typically expect to pay between $75 and $200
a session. Some trainers offer discounted fees for packages or prepaid
sessions.
The trainer you choose should motivate you and make working out an enjoyable,
educational experience without intimidating you or pushing you beyond your
limits.

Herzog Offers one-on-one eight-week ‘boot camp’
Greg Herzog of Herzog Body Tech has developed an Eight Week Boot Camp
Workout Program for individuals looking to lose up to eight to sixteen pounds in
eight weeks and get in “the best shape of their life”. Mr. Herzog takes exercisers
through a circuit of drills including squats, lunges, free weight exercises,
abdominal exercises, and plyometrics-Pilates like work, in a balanced fashion,
by employing the AXIS CORE™  training system.
Boot camp training is four times a week, doing a split routine, upper and lower
body on alternate days, while doing cardiovascular work daily. “Many boot
camps can prove to be too much of a challenge,” Mr. Herzog said, but his “Body
Tech Boot Camp Training mixes common moves like squats and push-ups with
dumbbell exercises including biceps curls and shoulder presses”. In other
words, exercises that challenge both the cardiovascular system and the larger
muscles of the body with efficient compound movements.
He said, “ ‘The Method’ AXIS CORE™ training takes the military theme, but
infuses the workout with its trademarked total body training techniques. The
result is an intense cardiovascular workout that also helps exercisers train,
using balance and stability.”
“Boot camp training can be very intense, so fortunately this program introduces
exercise intelligently,” he said. “The goal is not to talk down to you or make you
feel inferior. You will never be pushed beyond what you can safely do. The main
mission is to get you where you want to be. Probing your health and building
your confidence is the #1 priority.”

Herzog designs golf makeover
Greg Herzog reports he has created a 12-week mental, physical, emotional and
nutritional conditioning program that enables golfers to lose up to 12 to 24
pounds, increase flexibility and strength up to 70%, as well as address the
mental and emotional aspects of the game through his modality enhancement
conditioning system; Powermoves, Attention Directed Differently for golf
performance with VCP (a visual conditioning process).
“What golfers are now discovering is that the clubs don’t play the game, the
golfer does!”  Mr. Herzog said. “The only way to achieve a lower handicap is to
improve the function of the golfer; the person who actually swings the club. How
do you improve golf performance? By addressing golf-specific conditioning
needs.
The golf swing starts with core stability and strength, a well as balance and
coordination.
“AXIS CORE™  conditioning is very important for a golfer because all
movements in the upper and lower body are tied together, supported, and
coordinated by your core.” He said.
“Research has proven that flexibility is a key component for a powerful swing.
Limited range of motion contributes to improper mechanics, fatigue, and injury.
Without flexibility training, your muscles will shorten over time and so will your
swing.
Stretching has recently become the most important factor in an advanced fitness
routine for serious golfers.
Mr. Herzog believes that golfers need this service to reduce the incidence of
injury. He said, “Studies have shown that 53% of male and 45% of female
golfers suffer from lower back pain and 30% of all touring professionals are
playing injured at any given time. The sport is also rampant with wrist problems,
which is not surprising, considering the lack of core conditioning in most
golfers, leading to overuse of the arms.”
He added, “The Golf Makeover will help you develop the power, flexibility and
coordinated swing required to generate explosive force for maximum distance.
And with greater muscle endurance, you’ll have better control over your shots
right through the final hole. With added power, you’ll be able to use higher lofted
clubs into each green, resulting in more accurate shots.”

Greg Herzog registers conditioning system
Greg Herzog, who has been involved in the health and fitness industry for over
two decades, has registered AXIS CORE™ , “a mental, physical, emotional and
nutritional modality enhancement conditioning system to bridge the gap
between where you are and where you want to be, to achieve optimal
performance,” with the United States Patent and Trademark office.
Trained by Arthur Jones, the creator of Nautilus, Mr. Herzog says he has
“brought high intensity strength training, used by professional athletes like the
Washington Redskins to another level; improved upon proprioceptive
neuromuscular facilitation stretching, through his methods of physics, with ASR
Yoga Stretch; and has developed a mental, physical, emotional and nutritional
modality enhancement conditioning system a s the catalyst to successful
performance.
“Through a method of questioning, visual conditioning and representation that
promotes physiological change,” he said he “uses this system together with
behavior modification to help his clients find their own process for learning and
achievement.”
Mr. Herzog said he developed this system over the last 20 years “with the
understanding that both the metal and emotional play a huge role in developing
physical and nutritional well-being.”
He said he was “frustrated by why some clients were able to make faster
progress than others,” and he set out to create a scientific method of
questioning and visual conditioning, that not only could predict, but could also
change behavior. “This innovative system provides the bridge between
aspirations and achievements.”
Mr. Herzog has also created a software process for the Internet, soon to be
released, along with a book series, that will bring diet, exercise and conditioning
“into the 21st Century.”
Mr. Herzog is the founder of Herzog Body Tech at 383 Main Street and has been
a pioneer in the health and fitness business for more than two decades. As a
world class track and field athlete, he broke the four minute mile in 1983 and
was ranked 30th in the world, amongst the U.S. additions.
He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, with a background
in anatomy, physiology and sports psychology. As a certified trainer and
conditioning specialist, he has worked with Olympic athletes as well as
individuals from five to 92 years. Some of his clients have included the Fords,
Astors and Rockefellers.

Greg Herzog designs ‘Fitness Makeover’
Greg Herzog of Herzog Body Tech at 383 Main Street has designed a “Fitness
Makeover” program for individuals who want to lose weight and get in shape fast.
Mr. Herzog said the program “combines the power of weight training with
cardiovascular work to maximize weight loss and muscle tone. The sessions
are intense specifically designed for maximum fat loss and muscle toning in a
minimal amount of time.”
He said he has found that giving people a focused period of two to 12 weeks
where they can increase their strength, tone and flexibility up to 70% and lose
weight really gives people incentive to continue to exercise and follow his core
eating program for life. The program includes: physical profile, goal setting,
customized exercise program, customized nutrition plan, testing and analysis.

Former Olympic coach teaches fitness is more than physical training
By Jenny Blum, Press Staff
The philosophy behind Herzog Body Tech is that fitness extends far past
physical training.
The program offered by former Olympic coach Greg Herzog combines “mental,
Physical, emotional and nutritional conditioning in one package,” he said.
Mr. Herzog works one on one with his clients in a small studio on Main Street,
upstairs from a Ridgefield Dog Grooming place.
“I work with one person at a time,” he said. “You come in here, I stretch and I
strengthen you and you come out and feel great.”
The workout Mr. Herzog recommends combines aerobic and non-aerobic
excise. But, “You move from one thing to the next, the heart beat is up if you keep
moving,” he said.
By moving around his studio, the client’s exercise “is like a performance, it’s
entertainment,” he said.
Mr. Herzog is a firm believer that many people’s aversion to exercise is
psychological.
“Exercise is all about how it is introduced to you,” he said. “I deal with a lot of
psychological elements.”
Options
Mr. Herzog has worked in the health and fitness field for more than 20 years. “I’
m one of the pioneers.” He said. “I don’t like being called a personal trainer – it’s
not what I do. I’m more a conditioning specialist.”
But he knows his subject. He himself was a world class track and field athlete,
breaking the four-minute mile in 1983.
Herzog Body Tech uses resistance yoga and a body conditioning program
called AXIS CORE™ , which Mr. Herzog patented. He has also founded a weight
loss program called Attention Directed Differently, which partly relies on an
assessment of what motivates the client to eat the food he consumes.
Mr. Herzog believes that people should find the sort of fitness training that works
for them personally. “People are still not educated on who to go to and what they
offer,” he said. “You want a place to fit your personality. This is a nice
environment.
His typical client comes to get specific help losing weight or addressing a
fitness issue, he said.
“I usually deal with people who want a jump start,” he said. “I specialize in
someone who wants to have a 12-week program two or three times a week, and
after 12 weeks you’ll lose 10 to 12 pounds, be more flexible and stronger that
you’ve ever been in your life.”
One of Mr. Herzog’s goals is to educate his clients. “At one point they’re going to
leave,” he said. “I ask myself how I can create a positive association with
exercise.”

Herzog Body Tech creates new technique for
Back Pain

Greg Herzog, owner of Herzog Body Tech at 383 Main Street,
has developed a new technique to treat chronic pain that he calls
ASR OSTEO.
Mr. Herzog said he developed this technique over a 20-year period,
through research and working with people with back problems.
“Through research and applied physics”, he said, he “discovered
that people respond best with non-invasive techniques that allow
the muscles to relax at their own pace, as opposed to more violent
and faster moving techniques.”
Mr. Herzog said his father was in the hospital recently undergoing a
procedure, when his mother’s leg cramped up in the commissary.
He immediately applied the ASR OSTEO technique, which he said
“was immediately able to thwart the pain and the problem right then
and there.”
“ASR OSTEO is a form of touch therapy that utilizes the principles
of physics that involves placing physical pressure by hand, on
different pressure points on the surface of the body,” he said.
“The purpose is to rebalance the complex energy systems that
compose the body when those energy pathways become blocked
or out of balance, through the hands-on approach.”
“ASR OSTEO works on the premise that good health requires
proper alignment and equilibrium and as such will take into account
all the details of an individual’s lifestyle, such as environment,
nutrition and posture.
“It is distinctive by the fact that it recognizes that much of the pain
and disability which a person suffers stem from abnormalities in the
function of the body structure and the body’s innate ability to
compensate for that abnormality.”
Mr. Herzog is a former world class track and field athlete and
Olympic coach. He is a certified personal trainer and conditioning
specialist who has owned Herzog Body Tech in downtown
Ridgefield for the last 13 years. For more information, call 438-
